Energy-efficient cranes contribute to a lower carbon footprint by consuming less energy, which in turn reduces greenhouse gas emissions. For companies committed to sustainability or facing environmental regulations, these cranes help meet corporate sustainability goals by minimizing energy waste and

Edinburgh-based energy storage startup Gravitricity has found a novel way to keep the costs of gravity storage down: dropping its weights down disused mineshafts, rather than building towers...
This allows the crane to generate precise and powerful movements, enabling them to lift heavy loads. Main Components of Hydraulic Port Cranes: In-Depth Analysis Boom: The boom is the
One of the solutions is the use of energy storage systems, to achieve both peak shaving [25,26], as well as shifting of the demand [27,28]. Some benefits of energy storage systems are power
We consider a steel coil storage, where a gantry crane stores and retrieves steel coils of up to 35 tons. An energy-oriented approach for the scheduling of crane operations can

by recovering energy when braking lowering containers, and by shaving power peaks. After a literature review of current energy recovery and storage options, (ESS) to recover and store
The investigation focuses on analyzing the energy consumption of the overhead crane in relation both to the traveled distance and also for the lifting and lowering heights of a suspended payload.
According to statistics, the number of cranes has reached 2,104,400 units, and its energy consumption is huge regardless of which source we use such as oil and electricity.
In the case the crane is switched off the motors' speeds are zero, the switches are turned off and the DC bus voltage is under 570 V. Finally when the crane is in idle mode the motors' speeds are zero but the switches are turned on. Table 3. Crane modes and their description.
With each litre of diesel fuel that is consumed, 2.5 kg CO 2 emissions are associated; Hence savings of 32,600 L will result in savings of 81 tonnes of CO 2 per crane per year. Since Port of Felixstowe has a fleet of about 100 RTG cranes the total savings across the Port could be as high as 8100 tonnes. 9. Conclusions
As explained in Section 4.1, data has been collected from the crane PLC during operations. Among the information available, it was possible to also measure container weight, time interval between lifts, duration of lifts, energy demand and other crane activity parameters.
Lifting machinery is an indispensable key equipment in the production of metallurgy, shipbuilding, electric power, transportation, petrochemical and other industries. Reasonable evaluation of its energy consumption status is of great significance for guiding energy-saving production of lifting machinery.
The upwards and downwards movement of the spreader is accomplished by rotating of the main drum coupled to the hoist motor. This is called “hoist movement”; The “gantry movement” is defined as the motion of the whole crane along the container stack using the four sets of rubber wheels. Fig. 1. RTG crane in operation at the Port of Felixstowe.
