Battery energy storage system (BESS) has been applied extensively to provide grid services such as frequency regulation, voltage support, energy arbitrage, etc. Advanced control and optimization algorithms are implemented to meet operational requirements and to preserve battery lifetime.
To discover the present state of scientific research in the field of “battery energy-storage system,” a brief search in Google Scholar, Web of Science, and Scopus database has been done to find articles published in journals indexed in these databases within the year 2005–2020.
The concept of utility-scale mobile battery energy storage systems (MBESS) represents the combination of BESS and transportation methods such as the truck and train. The MBESS has the advantage of solving the grid congestion as the capacity could be transported by vehicles to change the grid connection point physically.
Battery energy storage systems provide multifarious applications in the power grid. BESS synergizes widely with energy production, consumption & storage components.
