In October 2015, the company Winterfell Industries acquired the majority of the capital of Efacec Power Solutions. The former shareholders – José de Mello and Têxtil Manuel Gonçalves Groups – now hold a minority position in the company’s capital and new Governing Bodies were elected. 2020 was a year of shareholder change for Efacec.
Why did Efacec change its name to EPs?
On August 14, 2014, we changed our name to Efacec Power Solutions, SA. (EPS). The constitution of EPS was part of the restructuring process that Efacec Capital, SGPS, S.A. started at the end of 2013, intending to align the corporate structure of the Efacec Group with the market segments addressed and the target geographies.
Who is Efacec?
Efacec already had experience in this business area, having been involved in the construction of subways in Bergen, Norway, Dublin, Ireland, and Porto, Portugal, being it that the European market corresponds to half its turnover. In October 2018, Efacec won one of the most important tenders in the area of level crossings in Europe.

On August 12, 2023, we celebrate the 75th anniversary of Efacec, a historic milestone that reinforces the strategic importance of a unique company in Portugal operating in sectors that structure society as a whole and of recognized importance in all the world geographies where it operates.
Where did Efacec come from?
Efacec emerged in 1948, from the union of the Belgian group ACEC (Ateliers de Constructions Électriques de Charleroi) and CUF (Companhia União Fabril), one of the largest Portuguese business groups at the time. The Efacec project history begins, however, in 1905, with the foundation of a new company named Modern, Mechanical Sawing Society.
