On March 21, the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) and the National Energy Administration of China issued the New Energy Storage Development Plan During China''s "14th Five-Year Plan"
The 14th Five-year Plan is an important new window for the development of the energy storage industry, in which energy storage will become a key supporting technology for renewable energy and China''s goals of peak
A power-based GEP-UC model that improves the existing models and includes real-time flexibility requirements, and the flexibility provided by ESS, as well as other UC constraints, e.g.,
MITEI''s three-year Future of Energy Storage study explored the role that energy storage can play in fighting climate change and in the global adoption of clean energy grids. Replacing fossil fuel-based power generation with power
To address this, this paper proposes a joint planning strategy for new energy, short-term, and long-term energy storage, considering regional low-carbon constraints. Firstly, the paper
The new UK Government has a laudable ambition to deliver ''clean power'' by 2030. energy storage facilities and low-carbon generation relative to each other. We need to
The Government of Japan formulates the "Strategic Energy Plan" to show the direction of Japan''s energy policy. It is reviewed at least every 3 years in view of the latest energy situations at home and abroad, and revised

The plan specified development goals for new energy storage in China, by 2025, new energy storage technologies will step into a large-scale development period and meet the conditions for large-scale commercial applications.
Since the publication of the first Energy Storage Safety Strategic Plan in 2014, there have been introductions of new technologies, new use cases, and new codes, standards, regulations, and testing methods. Additionally, failures in deployed energy storage systems (ESS) have led to new emergency response best practices.
Since April 21, 2021, the National Development and Reform Commission and the National Energy Administration have issued the ‘Guidance on Accelerating the Development of New Energy Storage (Draft for Solicitation of Comments)’ (referred to as the ‘Guidance’), which has given rise to the energy storage industry and even the energy industry.
Energy storage first passed through a technical verification phase during the 12th Five-year Plan period, followed by a second phase of project demonstrations and promotion during the 13th Five-year Plan period. These phases have laid a solid foundation for the development of technologies and applications for large-scale development.
Just as planned in the Guiding Opinions on Promoting Energy Storage Technology and Industry Development, energy storage has now stepped out of the stage of early commercialization and entered a new stage of large-scale development.
Based on the above analysis, as the first comprehensive policy document for the energy storage industry during the ‘14th Five-Year Plan’ period, the ‘Guidance’ provided reassurance for the development of the industry.
