Hyme Energy has developed a thermal energy storage system that uses liquid sodium hydroxide to store excess wind and solar power. The principle behind the system involves a large "immersion heater" that heats the sodium hydroxide

1 South Georgia Island is the only inhabited island, with the summer-only settlement of Grytviken, and the only one regularly visited by cruise ships.Minor islands are ranged along its north coast – those visited by cruises are Willis, Bird, Albatross and Prion, and Cooper. The south coast is exposed to raging winds and waves and is seldom visited – Annenkov is the only large island

The Museum is located in Grytviken, a former whaling station on the sub-Antarctic island of South Georgia. The collections are owned by the Government of South Georgia and the South Sandwich Islands (GSGSSI), a British Overseas Territory in the Southern Atlantic Ocean. The museum is managed and operated by the charity South Georgia Heritage Trust (SGHT) which is based in

Argentina has claimed the South Sandwich Islands and South Georgia as its territory since the late 1920s. Since Argentina''s ill-fated attempt to take the closer Falkland Islands from the United Kingdom in 1982, the South Sandwich Islands have been mainly home of a small population of fisherman and scientists with their families.

South Georgia and the South Sandwich Islands sit about 4,000 kilometres (2,500 miles) north of Antarctica and 2,700 kilometres (almost 1,700 miles) east of South America in the South Atlantic Ocean. In 2012, the United Kingdom established a sustainable use marine protected area (MPA) around these largely uninhabited islands to manage the local fishery
South Georgia & the South Sandwich Islands are only accessible by sea. There is no visitor accommodation ashore, therefore most people visit by cruise ship or yacht. All visits require a visit permit. Visit permit applications for both commercial and private vessels are submitted by the vessel owners or operators.
The island of South Georgia is unusual among oceanic islands for having pre-Cretaceous sedimentary rocks underlying much of the island and a significant portion of felsic igneous rocks. Two-thirds of the island consists of intensely folded flysch, capped with Aptian age fossils, tuff and greywacke in the Cumberland Bay Series.

Start-up company Hyme raises funds for molten salt storage. Recently, a Danish company called Hyme announced that it has received $12 million in funding for research into renewable energy storage technologies.
South Georgia & the South Sandwich Islands is a haven for wildlife. They are home to about five million seals of four different species, and 65 million breeding birds of 30 different species. Amongst these is the world''s only sub-Antarctic songbird, the endemic South Georgia pipit. The technical storage or access that is used exclusively

Hyme develops energy storage solutions based on the use of molten hydroxides as storage medium, and expects to be able to halve the price of long-term and large- scale energy storage facilities independently of geographical constraints. The first commercial facility is expected to be under construction before 2025.
Using our own salt treatment methods, we’re scaling these solutions for industrial use. Hyme is also refining salt blends to boost the thermal performance of molten hydroxides in energy storage.
Now, Denmark’s Hyme Energy — which has raised $26 million to date — has signed a deal which could see its technology scale to industrial levels. Arla, one of the world’s leading dairy producers, will partner with Hyme to develop a large-scale industrial thermal storage system, globally.
Hyme is also refining salt blends to boost the thermal performance of molten hydroxides in energy storage. At Hyme’s R&D labs, we’re constantly testing materials and components to drive down costs and optimise our designs, pushing the boundaries of what molten salts can deliver.
As the battery industry takes on the next frontier of stationary storage, The Battery Show and Electric & Hybrid Vehicle Technology Expo South will co-locate with Energy Storage South to feature an expanded focus on the energy storage systems pivotal for H/EV, renewables, commercial buildings, and critical facilities.
