An Improved SoC Balancing Strategy for Battery Energy Storage System in All-Electric Propulsion Ships Current Sharing Effect. J. Electr.
A dynamic state of charge (SoC) balancing strategy for parallel battery energy storage units (BESUs) based on dynamic adjustment factor is proposed under the hierarchical control framework of all-electric propulsion ships, which can achieve accurate power distribution, bus voltage recovery, and SoC balance accuracy.
Abstract: This paper proposes a dynamic state-of-charge (SOC) balance control strategy for the modular super capacitor energy storage system (ESS).
Due to manufacturing irregularity and different operating conditions, each serially connected cell in the battery pack may get unequal voltage or state of charge (SoC). Without proper cell balancing, serious safety risks such as over-charging and deep discharging in cells may occur.
Consequently, the authors review the passive and active cell balancing method based on voltage and SoC as a balancing criterion to determine which technique can be used to reduce the inconsistencies among cells in the battery pack to enhance the usable capacity thus driving range of the EVs.
A reconfigurable BESS based battery balance method is proposed to achieve active battery balance for idle scenarios. It bridges the gaps of existing balance methods of reconfigurable BESSs that focus merely on non-idle cases.
